While driving at one hundred kilometers per hour
Whatever that means in miles
Bobby knows but doesn’t let . himself work it out
Face numb , acceleration DROP in belly

Grandfather’s bakery was quiet after close
Besides the ticking of heating elements
The scents of ghost cookies
Citrus and vanilla and frosting sweetness
Haunt the air Jen’s family used to breathe

Coughing
Chugging
Dying
*Envious* of the car
No lights on this god awful road
Butt fuck nowhere may be an actual place
Pulling a car over never seemed so frightening
“fuck fuck fuck” .

Dark chocolate layer cake with mint sugar buttercream frosting
Slicing open vanilla pods
Splitting open their bodies
Removing their seeds like the tiniest black jewels
Eggs and butter and melted chocolate
Memories of mother’s hands
Making grandfather’s recipes

Slow blink in the silence
To get out of the car
Or to not get out of the car
That is the question
More cocaine was the answer

Buttercream frosting on fingertips
Is hard not to suck off
Closing up to go to job number two
Is difficult also
Soul dying one beer served at a time

Devil eye glow of cigarette between teeth
Too uncool to not smoke these days

Head lights

Loud music cleanses what little soul is left
tail lights up ahead
Foot down on the accelerator
Only the dumb
Or the drugged
Get lost out here
“59 Chevy Impala”
Jen knows her cars like she knows her cakes

Stop, don’t stop

Stop… don’t stop

Stop?

Stopping

Fuck

Fuck
