not poetry – take 2 *or* getting to know your lemons

Not poetry part 1 is here

I am rarely serious

Well, that’s not true

I find it

Difficult

To be serious

Terrariums are a thing

A thing I like to make

Picking a jar

Rocks, charcoal, soil

Choosing plants and bugs

Creating a mini world

And watching it either thrive

Or perish

I like bugs

Maybe too much…

No… not like that…

But

If I am walking and I see an ant

On the ground

Beneath my falling feet

I will stumble away to stop myself from crushing it

I still feel guilty for stepping on a snail last year…

But I have wished death on a “human”

I hate fighting

Fighting is useless

I love talking

Talking is my favourite

I didn’t drive a car until I was 26

Now, I drive a Prius

Because fuck paying so much for fuel

I swear too much

I miss salad

I change my hair colour too often

I like aprons and cooking

Baking cakes and cookies and cupcakes and muffins

Making pasta and gnocchi from scratch

Sauces and roasts and meals that require an entire day to prepare

But I am a terrible homemaker

I have a room for clothes that need to be folded

It is called my bedroom

And I don’t sleep there

Saturday’s are the only day I will fold clothes

I have assisted in extracting wombat semen for testing

Yes

You read that correctly

I won’t tell you how they extract semen from a wombat

Somethings you cannot unread

I like video games

But I am bad at them

I like gardening

But I am bad at that too

There are a lot of things that I like

But I am bad at them

Sorry…

Like ending a not poem

Here it is

Ending

  1. “Extracting the wombat” is going to be the latest euphemism. Lol

    1. Lmfao you are welcome… yes… I was the catcher too so I had to hold the special cup to catch the wombat jizz… not many people can say they have done that… I sound proud… lmfao
I’m glad you enjoyed getting to know me a little more. 😁😚🖤

      1. Yes… I was like a vet nurse without the piece of paper… assisting the vet with surgeries and procedures… feeding animals and stuff… hating on koalas… good times… WJC is only one part of my resume.

  2. haha I love this. I love how you constructed it.
And some of it, so relatable. I have always had a hard time being serious, hence my blog name. I realised I needed to be more serious about some things in my life…plus, I don’t like clowns lol.

The snail thing is hard too!! I still can’t squash them, either. I have to get my husband to do it!!

You sound like a great cook! (not snail related of course)
That wombat thing really made me laugh. I appreciate you didn’t write things we can’t unread 😁 But my o my how I love baby wombats. I am sure you have a lot of great stories!

    1. I’m so glad you liked it, hunny. It felt a little self indulgent but… meh… it is my blog lol

I too hate clowns. Like… in no way do I like clowns… Yes, seriousness is totally overrated, but it does have its place. I guess… *eye roll* lol

lol I have to do all my own squishing now… I am getting better with the spiders. I still feel terrible when I feel their little bodies crunch, but… you know… Australia… we can’t just let them walk around…

I won’t lie… my cooking skills are pretty up there lol

Baby wombats are so cute!!! They are like heavy puppies lol and then they grow up and start hating everything… I have a lot of stories from my time at Dubbo and Taronga zoos… I have done and seen some strange things lol

      1. haha yes indeed…still wondering what that place might be.

So there have been these ads all over SA for the Moscow circus, including these creepy old inflatable clowns. I was going to get a photo but couldn’t bring myself to do it. Then the hotel we stayed at while Darrin had his scan, the circus was set up right across the road! I took a picture from our balcony! I could not believe it. I seriously couldn’t stop laughing. Damn you Murphy!

I visited the Taronga zoo years ago, my first trip to Sydney when I was only 18. Holy cow,, that is so long ago. But I loved it. You should totally share more stories about all of that! 😀

      2. Lol it is hard to stop the not-serious when it is a serious situation…

I know the exact clowns you mean! They have the same ones here… I just want to go and slash them when I see them… I hate them…

        How is hubby?

Lol Yeah… Taronga zoo feels like a lifetime ago… I would have been 18ish when I worked there… I will think of some stories… and put them into words. Thank you for the idea beautiful 😁

      3. I know!!! Ugh, it just seems like some creepy joke on everyone.

Hubby is okay, thanks. We are both pretty pensive…I mean, really happy it’s not currently cancerous, but they are ominous apparently, and could easily become so. They are in the process of figuring out what to do. We are staying optimistic and I am researching alternatives to having his pancreas removed.

Haha and you are welcome! 😁🌸🐨🐘🐆🦕

      4. Lol it really does…

Yes… any tumor needs to be watched. And even benign ones can cause problems. Sometimes it is easier to jump on it sooner, while it is not a huge problem… but removing part of one’s body is always a huge step. Ugh… I’m so sorry. It must be do stressful for you both. Sending you all the warm fuzzies… 😊

      5. Yes, pretty major surgery. Instant diabetic etc, plus part of the stomach and intestine are removed as well, as the pancreas is pretty much jammed in there. Big decision. we will take one thing at a time.
        And thank you!! 🤗
